Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment

Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment (BBBEE) is the government policy to transform the South African economy. The purpose is to give the broad spectrum of previously disadvantaged and marginalised people equal access to participate actively and meaningfully in the mainstream economy.

BOSASA fully embraces the aims of BBBEE, as evidenced by our track record of providing opportunities to those from previously disadvantaged groups.

Our determination to follow the legislative framework, Codes of Good Practice and Transformation Charters is reflected in our Level 2 BBBEE rating by the South African National Accreditation System (SANAS). Level 2 is defined as fully BEE-compliant.

The BBBEE rating is based on seven core elements

1. Ownership

Measuring the extent to which black people effectively own the enterprise

2. Management control

Measuring the extent to which black people effectively control the enterprise

3. Employment equity

Measuring the enterprise’s initiatives to achieve equity in the workplace

4. Skills development

Measuring the extent of the enterprise’s initiatives to develop the competencies of employees

5. Preferential procurement

Measuring the extent to which the enterprise buys goods and services from BEE-compliant suppliers and black-owned entities

6. Enterprise development

Measuring the extent of the enterprise’s initiatives to contribute to the development of other businesses by previously disadvantaged people

7. Skills and socio-economic development

Measuring the extent of the enterprise’s investment in skills training for employees and in assisting previously disadvantaged beneficiaries

BOSASA’s Level 2 BBBEE rating, as certified but SANAS, takes account of all these factors as well as the size, annual turnover and legal structure of the BOSASA Group of companies.
