Lindela Repatriation Centre
Like thousands of other detention centres for undocumented migrants worldwide, Lindela Repatriation Centre is a place of waiting.
With high-density accommodation for 4 000 detainees, this is one of South Africa’s largest facilities. The people are waiting for their legal status in South Africa to be determined by their relevant embassies or diplomatic missions.
BOSASA’s Role at Lindela
The BOSASA Group provides specific services to Lindela Repatriation Centre, which opened in 1996. Police and the immigration officials employed by the Department of Home Affairs are responsible for the apprehension, detention, processing and eventual release or repatriation of the detainees.
BOSASA is responsible for:
Health and safety
Maintenance and technical services
Office facilities for consultants and human rights organisations
We are specialists in providing security in high-risk environments, with an impeccable track record of nearly two decades.
Every day at Lindela Repatriation Centre we prepare thousands of nutritious meals in a modern industrial kitchen that complies with all hygiene, health and safety requirements. We serve every detainee three meals per day in an attractive facebrick serving area. Our long experience and custom catering management systems ensure that ingredients are fresh, meals balanced and waste minimised.
The health clinic in the detention centre is open around the clock and staffed by a doctor and nurse. Here detainees receive the medical care they need, while a fully equipped ambulance stands ready in case of emergency.
Lindela Repatriation Centre has offices where consular staff can visit their nationals. An office is also available for permanent use by the South African Human Rights Commission.
